Trans people are people that have an appearance or an identity that expresses a different gender than they were assigned at birth.

Gender affirming treatment

Some of us experience mental and physical difficulties because the assigned gender does not match their gender identity and desired gender expression. Because of this, some want to have gender affirming treatment like hormonal treatment and/or surgical procedures to adapt the body to what is right for them. This treatment is available as part of the Norwegian health service.

Right to choose gender expression and legal gender

In Norway, you have the right to have the gender expression you want. If you are older than 16, you also have the right to change your name and legal gender. Other rules apply to people younger than 16.

No discrimination

In Norway, everyone has the same rights and is subject to the same laws regardless of gender.

In Norway, it is forbidden to treat people unequally or to discriminate against people because of their gender. This means that everyone must have equal opportunities both in their professional life and in their personal life. This is imposed by the Equality and Anti-Discrimination Act

If you experience discrimination you can get advice and guidance from The Equality and Anti-Discrimination Ombud.
