Hepatitis C

Hepatitis C can be transmitted sexually, through blood, e.g. sharing a razor, toothbrush or syringe or having unprotected sex with a partner who has open wounds. Hepatitis C causes a liver infection. Most do not get any symptoms upon infection. Using a condom when having sex reduces the risk of infection. Hepatitis C is caused by a virus. There is no vaccine that protects against hepatitis C. The infection can be treated with medication. The treatment is free of charge. Most people will get well with medication. Those who do not get well get medications that prevent or delay the development of liver disease.
